  LiCarbonate Daily - April 16th Update

  Today's lithium carbonate market faced a downturn, with the SMM index falling to 111,085 yuan/ton (~15,343.23 USD/ton) and futures declining by 3.78%, reflecting cautious market sentiment.

• Monthly operating rate at China galvanising plants

  According to the new SMM survey sample with a total capacity of 39.02 million mt/year, the average operating rate at galvanising plants stood at 55.47% in March, up 30.8 percentage points from the previous month and down 8.05 percentage points from the same period last year. Output was 1.80 million mt.

• Slowdown in interest rate cuts and weaker-than-expected post-holiday consumption led to a slight decline in SHFE and LME zinc prices

  At the beginning of March, the optimism about the Fed's interest rate cut had not been fully priced in, and the market increased its bets on the Fed's June rate cut. The US ADP employment in February recorded 140,000.

• Zinc monthly price forecast

  Domestic and overseas data improved in April. The inflation data, the increase in orders for durable goods, the PMI data and the strong employment data all showed the soft landing of the overseas economy and the recovery of China’s domestic manufacturing industry. Meanwhile, due to geopolitics issues, the credit status of the US dollar has been questioned, which has also boosted the prices of non-ferrous metals.
