Swedish mine Chilean state-owned mining giant Codelco has faced a number of challenges in its recent production operations. Its Andina copper mine, which was suspended due to heavy rains in Chile, resumed operations on June 25.
Codelco said on Tuesday June 27 that it was still assessing the impact on operations of weather shutdowns in the south-central region of the country. Some operations at the El Teniente copper mine remained suspended after the heavy rains. While underground operations were able to continue, production in the Sewell and Rojo areas remained halted.
However, the latest news is that the Teniente copper mine has stopped work in the area due to an electricity accident. According to mining, citing Reuters, Codelco said in a statement on June 27 that one person was killed in an electrical accident at the company's El Teniente mine in central Chile, the company's largest copper mine.
