Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 20, Chinese leading smart electric vehicle maker NIO officially announced the name of its third brand, "firefly", with its first vehicle sharing the same name.
Targeting the high-end compact car segment, the firefly aims to expand NIO's product portfolio and boost sales through its established distribution channels. The brand is expected to serve a role similar to BMW's MINI, catering to a niche yet premium audience.
Leveraging NIO's decade-long expertise in the premium electric vehicle market, the firefly brand promises to exceed user expectations in areas such as design, safety, space, intelligence, and energy replenishment efficiency. The company envisions the brand as a trailblazer in ushering in a new era of intelligent electric compact cars on a global scale.
The firefly brand will be officially launched at the NIO Day 2024 on December 21, with its first model slated for delivery in the first half of 2025.
NIO's current brand lineup includes its namesake premium brand and ONVO, a mainstream family-focused brand introduced on May 15 this year. The first ONVO model, the ONVO L60, hit the market on September 19 as a smart electric SUV tailored for families. The L60 offers two variants based on the battery capacity: a 60 kWh standard range priced at 206,900 yuan and an 85 kWh long-range version priced at 235,900 yuan. For customers using NIO's BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) rental program, the vehicle's starting price can be lowered to 149,900 yuan, with battery rental fees as low as 599 yuan per month. Deliveries began nationwide on September 28.
At the Auto Guangzhou 2024 on November 15, ONVO's President Ai Tiecheng highlighted the L60's impressive market response. Its production has been booked through the first quarter of 2025, and as of November 14, over 7,000 units had been delivered. The company aims to exceed 10,000-unit monthly deliveries in December this year and 20,000 units by March 2025.
