Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 25, CATL unveiled its TIANXING battery series for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, promising breakthroughs in range, charging speed, and safety standards.
As the electrification of heavy-duty commercial vehicles accelerates, challenges such as limited range, slow charging, and rapid battery degradation have hindered market expansion. The new battery products aim to address these critical pain points, coming with four specialized variants: Superfast Charging, Long-Life, Long-Range, and High-Strength (tailored for construction machinery).
According to CATL, the Superfast Charging edition boasts peak 4C supercharging capability, recharging to 70% of its capacity in just 15 minutes. With a lifespan exceeding 1.2 million kilometers, a maximum capacity of 600 kWh, and a range of up to 500 kilometers, this variant is ideal for short-haul scenarios like mining and concrete transport, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and profitability.
The Long-Life edition delivers a lifespan of 15 years or 3 million kilometers, overcoming the durability challenges faced by heavy-duty electric trucks in high-demand applications such as heavy loads and medium- to long-distance transport. With a range of up to 500 kilometers, it caters to diverse operational needs. The battery also supports a flexible " chargeable, swappable, and upgradeable" system, offering options for rental, purchase, and buyback to reduce costs for end users.
The Long-Range edition introduces a groundbreaking 1,000 kWh chassis-wide design, enabling an 800-kilometer range. This innovation eliminates the long-distance constraints of electric heavy-duty trucks, making it ideal for interprovincial logistics like express and freight transportation. Its industry-leading energy density of 220 Wh/kg and chassis-wide design also expand cargo space, maximizing profitability for users.
The High-Strength edition is designed specifically for construction machinery, demonstrating exceptional durability by maintaining safety even after 500,000 kilometers of operation in mining environments—four times the industry standard. It adopts CATL's proprietary "Taishan Architecture" that optimizes integrated technology, improving volume utilization by 40% and achieving IP68 waterproofing. The battery's anti-corrosion "armor coating" ensures reliable performance in harsh conditions.
Currently in mass production, the TIANXING High-Strength battery has been deployed across more than 20 vehicle models from eight major manufacturers, including Tonly Heavy Industries, LiuGong Machinery, XCMG, Breton, and others.
Since launching the commercial vehicle-dedicated TIANXING battery brand in July 2024, CATL has introduced various products tailored for logistics and public transportation, namely, the Superfast Charging and Long Range editions of the TIANXING L series for light-duty commercial vehicles, and the TIANXING B series for buses, achieving comprehensive coverage of the commercial vehicle market.
