Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, a fire new Volvo S90 sedan rolled off the assembly line at Volvo Cars' Daqing plant, marking the factory's significant milestone of producing its 500,000th vehicle, according to a post on Volvo CarsWeChat account.

As a key part of Volvo Cars' global manufacturing network, the Daqing facility is Volvo's first SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) plant in China and the exclusive global production site for the Volvo S90.

On the technological front, the Daqing plant leverages Volvo Cars' global Volvo Car Manufacturing System (VCMS) to establish an intelligent manufacturing framework. The facility is fully equipped with 5G network coverage and integrates industrial internet applications, Ethernet technology, and radio frequency identification. This enables seamless connectivity among its product development, manufacturing engineering, order management, logistics, production control, and vehicle dispatch systems.

In November, Volvo Cars achieved global sales of 66,977 vehicles, with 32,108 units being electrified models. In China, despite an 8% year-over-year decline, the carmaker sold 13,923 vehicles. Notably, internal combustion engine vehicle and mild hybrid vehicle models dominated the Chinese market, accounting for 12,076 units sold in the month.

Volvo Cars has been stepping up its efforts in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. Reports in November revealed that Volvo had partnered with DreamSmart and ECARX to develop the in-car infotainment system for its upcoming V446 NEV. While Volvo Cars leads the software and hardware development for the model, Geely is providing technical support. Designed specifically for the Chinese market, the V446 will be based on the Lynk & Co plug-in hybrid SUV platform and is expected to enter mass production in 2025.
