SMM January 3 News: This week, the operating rates of galvanising producers recorded 58.72%, dropping 3.76 percentage points WoW. In terms of raw material inventories, zinc prices fluctuated continuously this week, and downstream purchasing enthusiasm remained low, focusing mainly on restocking for rigid demand, leading to a noticeable slight pullback in raw material inventories. Weekly operating rates declined primarily due to the following reasons:
For galvanised pipes, as the Chinese New Year approaches, end-user projects are gradually completed and enter the holiday phase, weakening demand for galvanised pipes. Orders decreased, and sales dropped significantly, resulting in an increase in finished product inventories for manufacturers. To avoid excessive inventory, some enterprises reduced production activities, while others planned to start their holidays after the New Year, causing a significant decline in operating rates.
For structural components, a small number of manufacturers entered their year-end holidays earlier after the New Year holiday. Meanwhile, year-end orders were mostly completed, leading these enterprises to gradually reduce production. Operating rates are expected to continue declining next week.
