This week (December 28, 2024 - January 3, 2025), the operating rate of primary lead smelters was 58.19%, down 0.42 percentage points WoW.
This week, smelter production in Henan Province remained stable. However, due to a slight production decline at a small-scale smelter, the operating rate in Henan saw a minor decrease. In Yunnan Province, a large-to-medium-scale smelter did not reach full production capacity, leading to a decline in primary lead supply in the region, with almost no spot quotes in the market. In Hunan Province, after the suspension of crude lead production caused by environmental protection factors ended, the recovery of primary lead production has been relatively slow—only two small-to-medium-scale smelters resumed production, while two other smelters underwent routine maintenance as planned, with no short-term recovery expected for primary lead production. Outside the survey samples of the three provinces, in January 2025, a smelter in Guangxi is expected to see a slight decline in primary lead production, while routine maintenance at a smelter in Guangdong is expected to be delayed until after New Year's Day, with another smelter in the region cutting production due to maintenance.
