【Oman Exports Copper Ore for the First Time in 30 Years】According to Mining.com, Oman has announced its first export of copper concentrates after a 30-year hiatus. Approximately 900 mt of concentrates produced by the Lasail copper mine, operated by Minerals Development Oman (MDO), were exported from Sohar Port.

MDO stated that this milestone achievement not only marks the revival of Oman's copper mining industry after three decades but also represents significant progress in the country's economic diversification and sustainable development.
MDO CEO Matar bin Salem Al-Badi emphasized the historical significance of resuming exports, highlighting the region's 3,000-year history of copper mining, as well as the work of Oman Mining Company (OMC) since 1983.
At a press conference, Al-Badi stated, "The first export from the Lasail copper mine demonstrates our ability to turn challenges into unique development opportunities."
The Lasail copper mine has an annual copper ore mining capacity of 500,000 mt, with concentrate grades ranging from 18-22%.
MDO also announced plans to commence operations at the Al-Baydha copper mine in Liwa in 2025-2026. The total copper ore reserves of these mines amount to 2.78 million mt. The first phase of the redevelopment project is expected to have a production cycle of 4-5 years.
The company stated that its goal is not only to redevelop the Lasail and Al-Baydha copper mines but also to actively explore nearby areas to increase copper reserves. Its plans include Oman's largest copper mine project, Mazoon.
