SMM, January 7: Silicon prices in east China saw a slight decline. Standard #553 silicon metal in east China was priced at 10,900-11,100 yuan/mt, while above-standard #553 silicon metal was at 11,100-11,200 yuan/mt, with the average price down by 50 yuan/mt. Today, silicon metal futures prices continued to drop, with the most-traded SI2502 futures contract closing at 10,585 yuan/mt. The low futures prices pressured the market, leaving factory spot prices uncompetitive. In the spot market, downstream inquiries and purchases were scarce. A few silicon plants, having seen no new orders recently and with current silicon prices far below cost lines, reported plans for furnace shutdowns and maintenance in the near term.
