SMM January 10 News:
As a global leader in the power battery industry, CATL recently held a grand Chocolate Battery Swapping Ecosystem Conference in Xiamen, the location of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Electric Service. At the conference, CATL unveiled the latest generation of its "Chocolate Battery Swapping" solution and introduced the No. 20 and No. 25 standard battery swapping blocks, which may signify the official entry of the battery swapping industry into a new era of standardization.
Since CATL established Times Electric Service in Xiamen in 2021 and entered the battery swapping sector, the company has been increasingly active in this field. The newly launched "Chocolate Battery Swapping" solution, with its versatility across brands and car models, is leading a new direction in the development of the battery swapping ecosystem.
CATL Chairman and CEO Robin Zeng stated at the conference: "Based on market demand, we expect that by 2030, battery swapping, home charging piles, and public charging piles will 'share the market equally.' In the future, all new battery technologies from CATL will be applied to 'Chocolate Battery Swapping' car models." This statement undoubtedly injects strong confidence into the future development of the battery swapping industry.
The "Chocolate Battery Swapping Blocks" released this time adopt a standardized design, achieving technical specification unification across different car models and battery swapping service providers through the establishment of two standard specifications, No. 20 and No. 25. This innovative initiative is expected to significantly reduce the development costs of battery swapping car models and shorten the development cycle for new vehicles.
In addition to the battery swapping blocks, CATL's "Chocolate Battery Swapping" solution also includes high-efficiency battery swapping stations and an intelligent cloud platform. According to Times Electric Service CEO Jun Yang, CATL's standard battery swapping stations can complete a battery swap in as fast as 78 seconds and feature integrated storage, charging, and swapping functions, effectively alleviating peak electricity demand pressure and playing multiple roles in the operation of the power system.
Regarding the construction of the battery swapping network, CATL has established a clear timetable. The company plans to build 1,000 Chocolate Battery Swapping Stations by 2025 and expand into the Hong Kong and Macau markets. In its medium and long-term planning, CATL will collaborate with partners to build more battery swapping stations, ultimately forming a large-scale battery swapping network.
It is worth noting that as the location of Times Electric Service, Xiamen holds a significant position in CATL's layout of the new generation of Chocolate Battery Swapping Stations. The new technologies and products of Times Electric Service will first be implemented and promoted in Xiamen. Currently, CATL has built 15 passenger car battery swapping stations in Xiamen and plans to further expand the coverage of its battery swapping network in the city in the future.
