[SMM Analysis] Domestic Lithium Carbonate Import Volume for December 2024 Released

According to customs data, in December 2024, China's total imports of lithium carbonate were approximately 28,035 mt, up 46% MoM, with an average import price of around $10,317/mt.

According to customs data, China's total lithium carbonate imports in December 2024 were approximately 28,035 mt, reaching a historical high, up 46% MoM and up 38% YoY. The average import price was about $10,317/mt, up 7.6% MoM compared to November. Among these, lithium carbonate imports from Chile were approximately 23,217 mt, up 90% MoM, accounting for about 83% of the total imports; imports from Argentina were approximately 4,542 mt, down 28% MoM, accounting for about 16% of the total imports.
For the full year of 2024, China's lithium carbonate imports totaled approximately 235,000 mt, up 48% YoY. Among these, imports from Chile were about 184,000 mt, accounting for 78%, up 32% YoY; imports from Argentina were about 47,000 mt, accounting for about 20%, up 155% YoY. Chile and Argentina remain the main sources of China's lithium carbonate imports.
According to data released by Chilean customs, its lithium carbonate shipments to China in December 2024 were approximately 13,363 mt, down 21% MoM compared to November. The shipment volume decreased due to the off-season demand around the Chinese New Year. It is expected that China's lithium carbonate imports in January 2025 will pull back.
