Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 26, BMW Group announced a strategic collaboration with Alibaba Group in artificial intelligence (AI) field, focusing on AI large language models (LLMs) and intelligent voice interaction.

This partnership aims to develop cutting-edge solutions tailored to Chinese consumers, with Alibaba's Tongyi Qinwen AI model set to power BMW's Neue Klasse vehicles in China.

BMW Brilliance CEO Dr. Franz Decker highlighted that the brand's new-generation electronic and electrical architecture will integrate AI, enhancing natural user interactions and over-the-air (OTA) capabilities.

BMW China R&D Vice President Dr. Robert Kahlenberg, stated that the BMW Group Asia-Pacific Tech Center has undergone a comprehensive upgrade, with Chinese teams deeply involved in software and digital development. AI-driven development has boosted efficiency by 30%, helping create a new-generation intelligent cabin tailored to Chinese users' needs.

On March 25, BMW Group announced the launch of its 360-degree full-chain AI strategy for its China business. This initiative focuses on digitalized production and operations, enhancing intelligent user experiences across all scenarios, and fostering open innovation in research and development. The strategy aims to accelerate BMW's AI integration in China, shaping long-term competitiveness in the AI era.

Set for local production in China in 2026, BMW's Neue Klasse models will be the first to feature AI-powered BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, integrating AI agents into the cabin. The system will support human-like communication, multi-agent coordination, and an open digital ecosystem, enabling precise intent recognition, complex command execution, nuanced semantic understanding, and logical reasoning for a more intuitive user experience.

For the first time, BMW will introduce proactive interaction recommendations, leveraging in-vehicle sensors and cameras to analyze real-time data and provide personalized services. For example, if a passenger leaves behind a personal item, the system will issue a reminder. These AI-driven technologies will be available across BMW's entire powertrain lineup, ensuring a unified intelligence experience for both electric vehicle and combustion-engine models.
