The Antamina copper mine in Peru has been completely shut down due to a sudden safety accident.

On Tuesday, April 22, Peru's Antamina Mining Company announced on its website that due to an unexpected safety incident, the mine has initiated a full shutdown to ensure safety.

According to the official website of Antamina Mining Company, it is one of Peru's largest producers of copper concentrates and zinc concentrates, and is also one of the top ten mines globally in terms of production. It is reported that the company's shareholders and their shareholdings are: BHP (33.75%), Glencore (33.75%), Teck (22.5%), and Mitsubishi (10%). In 2024, the company's copper production was 410,000 mt, accounting for 15% of Peru's total production.
