Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 12, Dongfeng Nissan announced it has become the first joint-venture-owned car brand in China to form a comprehensive cooperation with HarmonySpace, Huawei's sub-brand dedicated to automotive cockpit business, aiming to co-create a smart and comfortable mobility experience.
In a recent interview, Zhou Feng, Vice President of Dongfeng Nissan, shared insights on the company's current status and future plans. Mr. Zhou acknowledged that the company had initially misjudged the trajectory of China's new energy vehicle (NEV) market, leading to hesitancy in their strategic decisions. This hesitation caused Dongfeng Nissan to miss the optimal window for transitioning to NEVs. To address these challenges, Zhou emphasized that the company will now adopt a more proactive approach, focusing on both electrification and intelligent technology. He revealed, "We are preparing intensively for this transformation, and next year we will launch a series of NEV products and intelligent solutions."
Mr. Zhou identified three main sources of confidence for the company's transformation. First, both major shareholders (Dongfeng Motor and Nissan Motor) are fully supporting the joint venture's shift to NEVs, with plans to introduce more than five NEV models over the next two to three years, backed by an investment exceeding 10 billion yuan. Second, the company's team is increasingly shifting towards a customer-centric approach, becoming more responsive to consumer needs. Third, Dongfeng Nissan is leveraging the combined technological resources of its shareholders to drive its development forward.
Additionally, Zhou disclosed that Dongfeng Nissan is collaborating closely with key partners including Huawei, Momenta, iFlytek, and NVIDIA to advance its capabilities in intelligent and NEV technologies. The strategic partnership with Huawei involves co-developing an intelligent cockpit system, which he believes will soon enable Dongfeng Nissan to offer customers a complete, integrated solution.
