Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 12, BYD's FANGCHENGBAO brand put its second mass-produced model, the BAO 8, onto the market with four different variants priced between 379,800 yuan and 407,800 yuan.
In June 2023, BYD officially announced the name "FANGCHENGBAO" for its new brand specializing on professional and personalized identities, which was internally code-named "F brand". In August of the same year, the company launched the pioneering DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) platform for plug-in hybrid electric off-road vehicles, debuting the first model, BAO 5, which hit the market in November 2023.
Compare to the BAO 5, the fire new BAO 8 brings significant upgrades, with a key highlight being its collaboration with Huawei. The BAO 8 marks the first vehicle born from the BYD-Huawei partnership and is also the world's first rugged SUV equipped with Huawei's intelligent driving system. The BAO 8 features Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0, enabling comprehensive, full-scenario autonomous driving capabilities, including handling complex maneuvers like barrier gates, roundabouts, and tight U-turns. Additionally, it offers advanced parking features such as valet parking, remote maneuvering, and off-car parking assistance.
In terms of smart cabin features, the BAO 8 stands out with its advanced BYD 9000 chip, built on a 4nm process, and integrated AI-powered large language model functions. It supports the "Fang Hua" vehicle-smartphone connectivity system, allowing seamless integration of Huawei smartphone apps and services via HUAWEI HiCar.
Performance-wise, the BAO 8 is built on FANGCHENGBAO's exclusive DMO platform. The platform features a longitudinally mounted engine (with the top-spec model boasting a 2.0T engine) paired with a longitudinal EHS hybrid system, sharing its origins with BYD's latest DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid platform. According to official data, the BAO 8 delivers a maximum torque of 760 Nm and nearly 750 horsepower, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.8 seconds. Despite its hefty weight of over three tonnes, it achieves an impressive fuel efficiency of 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers on battery depletion.
The BAO 8 is also equipped with the DiSus-P hydraulic suspension system, the same one used in BYD's YANGWANG U8. This suspension system, a technological highlight of BYD's portfolio, features a 140mm suspension travel height, adjustable stiffness in three levels, intelligent damping control, and predictive road scanning with four-wheel interlink capabilities, enhancing overall driving stability.
